The Big Ten Academic Alliance (BTAA) and the Public Library of Science (PLOS) today announced an agreement for BTAA members to participate in PLOS’ Community Action Publishing (CAP) program. The agreement ensures time to test and evaluate this new community-based model and allows BTAA researchers to publish in PLOS Biology and PLOS Medicine without incurring fees. PLOS Computational Biology defines “open” as more than the availability of a research article. The journal's authors, editors, and readers see data and code sharing as tools to boost reproducibility and transparency.

Sharing code alongside data will allow others to check and reproduce work and ultimately drive new discoveries. The PLoS Biology Fattore di Impatto measures the average number of citations received in a particular year (2020) by papers published in the PLoS Biology during the two preceding years (2018-2019). Note that 2020 Journal Impact are reported in 2021; they cannot be calculated until all of the 2020 publications have been processed by the indexing agency. The PLOS Computational Biology Methods Section was launched in 2013 andhas given computational method development a dedicated space in the journal.Handled by our Methods Editors, Methods articles present outstandingcontributions of innovative computational methods for highly relevantbiological problems. The methods are expected to be thoroughly validatedon real (and, in addition, possibly PLoS Biology has established editorial procedures that will ensure timely peer review and publication of articles that are likely to make significant contributions to diverse life science fields. Authors are encouraged to make presubmission inquiries and can expect a response within a few days.

2020-04-07 · PLOS Biology is interested in publishing the best research in the biological sciences that meets our publication criteria, even when that means disproving a theory rather than confirming it. Our new scope puts more emphasis on the research question and creates space for researchers to report different kinds of results than a highly-selective publisher would normally accept.
